Diskit Gompa is a Buddhist monastery built by Changzen Tserab Zanpo, a disciple of Tsong-Kha-Pa, in 14th century. This monastery is situated in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh. There is a popular legend attached to this monastery. As legend says, a Mongol demon, a sworn enemy of Buddhism, was destroyed near the monastery. After his death, his body still kept coming back to the monastery. It is also said that his wrinkled head and hand are still stored in the dark and claustrophobic temple surrounded by frightening Gods and Goddesses.
There is a Lachung Temple located up the hill near the monastery. It is the oldest temple, preserving a huge statue of Tsong-Kha-Pa with a Gelugpa yellow hat on the top of it. A raised cupola well ornamented with a mural is situated centrally in Diskit Gompa. This raised cupola portrays Tashilhunpo Gompa of Tibet.
Some other shrines are Kangyu-lang and Tsangyu-lang located in this monastery. These temples house a number of Mongolian and Tibetan texts.
